Renting a Car at Huelva Train Station

Not every trip through Huelva starts or ends in the city itself, and Estación de tren de Huelva often marks a point along a longer journey. Enterprise car and van hire at Huelva train station make it simple to continue your trip, whether that means the coast, the countryside or further into Andalusia.

Huelva sits where the Tinto and Odiel rivers meet the Atlantic, a compact regional capital built on trade, mining and, centuries ago, Christopher Columbus's voyages to the Americas. The city centre is low-rise and easy to walk, with the long timber pier of Muelle del Tinto reaching out over the water and the pastel terraces of Barrio Reina Victoria recalling the city's mining past. Beyond the centre, the land opens quickly into marshland, pine groves and open coast, giving Huelva a mixed identity, part working port city, part gateway to wilder Atlantic Andalucía.

A car suits travellers who want to see more of this coast at their own pace. Punta Umbría and the beaches west of the city are close enough for a half-day out, while El Rocío and the marshes of Doñana make for a longer, quieter drive inland. An automatic car or a compact SUV handles these shorter trips comfortably, with enough room for beach gear or walking boots. Car rental also opens up hill towns like Aracena to the north.

A minivan makes more sense for groups or longer regional trips. Families moving between coastal towns, or groups continuing on to Seville or the Sierra de Aracena, often find a minivan or a 7-seater people carrier easier than taking several cars. For bigger parties or extra luggage, a 9-seater minivan or a cargo van keeps everyone and everything together. A Luton van can help too, for anyone combining travel with moving belongings along the way.

Nearby attractions

La Rábida Monastery, just outside Palos de la Frontera, is where Columbus is said to have planned his first voyage with the help of local friars. The whitewashed cloisters are quiet and easy to explore in an hour, and the nearby Wharf of the Caravels lets visitors walk aboard full-size replicas of his three ships.

Doñana National Park is one of the largest wetlands in Europe, home to flamingos, wild horses and the rare Iberian lynx. Guided 4x4 routes run from the main visitor centre, and even a short walk along the marsh boardwalks gives a real sense of its scale.

Punta Umbría is a low-key beach town with a long stretch of sand and a working fishing harbour. It suits a relaxed afternoon better than a packed itinerary, with seafood restaurants lining the seafront.

Huelva province with its long, quiet beaches, marshland and hill towns further north all sit within an hour or so of the city, without the crowds found elsewhere in Andalucía. It is a region built for driving, one stretch of coast or countryside at a time.
